The sandwich was only lukewarm when we got the order and the grits was probably the best part of the meal. My husband had the lowcountry breakfast sandwich and grits. I ordered the crab cake benedict - one of my yolks was cooked all the way through and the other one was cooked halfway through, I had a side of the mac and cheese which was under seasoned and kind of watery. We also weren’t provided the little starter biscuits for us that apparently everyone loves there. Some of the other tables of 6 people or so got there after us and left before us! We weren’t provided water, in fact, the waitress left the water pitcher of water at the table next to us forgetting to pour the water for us for 10 minutes so one of my friends went over to get the water. It seemed like all other tables had servers that were way better than the one we had. My friends who live in the area said that the restaurant wasn’t typically as slow as it was that day. Apparently when I go anywhere in Richmond, service just automatically becomes horrendous. Would definitely recommend giving Mosaic a try if you are in the area and looking for good new American food! The only downside there was that the sauce was a bit overpowering and a bit too spicy, but taste of the crab cake was good, and there was lots of meat. My girlfriend got the pita crab cake, and I tried a bite. I quite enjoyed the sauces they had artistically put on the plate, and was overall very pleased with the meal size and quality. The three scallops were large, tender, and tasty, and the risotto was well flavored and filling. Anyway, food-wise, we tried the spring rolls (Julie G posted a good photo of this appetizer, four rolls split into halves, so eight pieces total), and I ordered the scallop special. Only knock against her was that she did not know the beer on tap as they had just changed the keg and had to go and check. We took a bit of time in ordering as we were catching up, so I cannot comment too much on the supposed slowness of the service, but the waitress we had was attentive, brought water (including hot water with lemon for my mom) and bread. Beer selection was good, if a bit pricey - I ordered the COTU Chin Music (the official beer of the Richmond Flying Squirrels). My folks had arrived about ten minutes before my girlfriend and I did, so they were seated already. Shame on you Mosaic.Ĭame here for dinner with the folks after a long drive up from Charlotte on a Sunday night, and I was impressed with the quality of the food and the service. I’ve had better food from a grocery store hot bar. In summation: Mosaic is one of those traditional, old-school Richmond places that rest on their laurels as something «nice», when in fact it is sub-par. And that is the only good thing I have to say about the experience. The faces and sounds of dismay around the table this afternoon were, at least, comical. A dessert plate intended to feed up to 12 people had four cookies and three chocolate truffles, none of which were even the desserts initially requested. The «elegant combination platter» of cold chicken nuggets, stale pita, mayo-heavy corn «dip» and dry-as-a-science textbook ham biscuits tasted off, and arrived spilled completely off of their serving platters, on their sides in a bag. For the money that was spent, the quality of the food (and the presentation) was shockingly disappointing. The staff decided on Mosaic, which, from their menu at least, sounded fantastic. One of the vendors that my employer works with wanted to treat our office to lunch, and gave us free reign to choose whatever we wanted. The catered lunch we received from Mosaic today was simply unacceptable.
